BESPOKE SHIRT

BESPOKE SHIRT

BESPOKE SHIRT, CRAFTSMANSHIP MADE IN BRUSSELS.
Buying a “Bespoke” shirt is having access to the best in the field. This process requires a commitment from the customer. My Tailor has made the choice to offer all your bespoke shirts and blouses handmade in Brussels. We value a craftsman's know-how to guarantee a high quality garment.

TAKING MEASUREMENTS

TAKING MEASUREMENTS

TAKING MEASUREMENTS OF YOUR BESPOKE SHIRT
Taking your measurements helps us to offer you a shirt that perfectly fits your morphology. This is done by taking your measurements on more than 10 points in order to create a unique pattern. This pattern will then be used to cut and make each of your shirts.

SEWING PATTERN PAPER

SEWING PATTERN PAPER
The Sewing Pattern Paper allows us to see the result based on your measurements and to make changes to adjust your patterns to make your shirts look perfect. Creating a Sewing Pattern Paper is optional but highly recommended to avoid any modifications on shirts made from high quality fabrics.

PERSONALISATION

FABRICS

THE FABRICS OF YOUR BESPOKE SHIRT
We have selected fabrics from leading houses renowned for their excellence in order to offer you a wide range of quality. The selected fabrics come exclusively from Italian and British weavers.

COLLARS

YOUR SHIRT COLLARS
Collar is the most visible element of a shirt, combining the fabric and the shirt substantially defines the spirit of your outfit. This is why we have developed more than 15 types of collars to suit every physiognomy and style. Among these you will find basic collars such as the French collar, the Italian "cut-away" collar, the American "button-down" collar, the English "tab collar" collar or the broken collar.

WHALES SHIRT COLLARS

WHALES SHIRT COLLARS
The Whale shirt collars are the rods, metal or plastic that are used to give rigidity to the collars. You can choose between removable ribbed collars - a method we recommend - integrated ribbed collars and collars without ribs. The last option is recommended for more sporty collars and is used by default in American collars.

SHIRT CUFFS

YOUR SHIRT CUFFS
There are more than 15 different shirt cuffs available, including classics such as the round, bevelled "broken", square, And Neapolitan or cuff and musketeer cuffs. Some of the in-betweens can be made with two buttons or as an adjustable cuff. The length of the cuffs can be personalised, as can the cuff circumference, which can be wider on one of your sleeves to fit your timepieces.

THE LININGS

THE LININGS OF YOUR SHIRT COLLAR AND CUFFS
We often use the same fabric in which your shirts are made to line the collars and cuffs of your shirts. However, you can choose a different fabric for some parts of your shirts to give them a personal touch:

EMBROIDERED INITIALS

THE LININGS OF YOUR SHIRT COLLAR AND CUFFS
On request we can engrave your shirts with a monogram. This is done manually and can be made on the basis of several fonts.

BUTTONHOLES

BUTTONHOLES ON YOUR SHIRT
Buttonholes are usually sewn with a thread of the same colour as your shirt. However, if you want contrasting buttonholes, we can make them with a thread of your choice.

THE BUTTONS

BUTTONS ON YOUR SHIRT
We have a large variety of buttons to choose from, all of which are made from high quality, natural materials. Our top quality mother-of-pearl buttons come from Australia and Tahiti, but we can also offer you mother-of-pearl buttons treated to obtain various colours. Our horn, wooden or corozo (vegetable ivory) buttons are interesting alternatives to traditional mother-of-pearl buttons and will allow you to add a touch of originality to your shirts.

THROATS AND PLASTRONS

YOUR SHIRT THROATS AND PLASTRONS
Throats and plastrons, as well as collar and the type of fabric used, shape the spirit of your shirt. Your My Tailor shirts can be made in different ways depending on the style you are looking for:

THE BACK OF YOUR SHIRT

THE BACK OF YOUR SHIRT
A bespoke shirt is essentially created according to your morphology. However, some adjustments can be made to create a shirt that is closer to the body or offers more ease of movement. Shirts made with a back with no pleats or darts are the most basic. They have the advantage of being easy to iron, offer a clean look and are perfect for tight or straight cuts. Shirts with two pleats or a centre pleat on the back offer extra freedom of movement. The centre pleat is, in our opinion, more suitable for informal shirts as are shirts with a gusseted back. We also recommend a two-ply back to create a shirt that fits your body perfectly and fits snugly.

THE BOTTOM OF YOUR SHIRT

The slit stockings can be worn inside the trousers, or outside by shortening the length of the shirt. However, without adopting a proselytizing attitude, we recommend wearing your shirts inside your trousers.

REALISATION

SHIRT PATTERN

THE PATTERN OF YOUR SHIRT
In order to make each of your shirts fit perfectly, we design and cut by hand your personal patterns. These are created exclusively from your measurements and not on the basis of pre-existing templates.

Shirts with two pleats or a centre pleat on the back offer extra freedom of movement. The centre pleat is, in our opinion, more suitable for informal shirts as are shirts with a gusseted back. Finally, if you want a slim fit, we recommend a two-ply back to create a shirt that fits your body perfectly.

THE CUT

THE CUT OF YOUR SHIRT
Once the patterns have been created, we will cut your fitting canvas, which is optional but highly recommended for your first order.

SHIRT ASSEMBLY

THE ASSEMBLY OF YOUR SHIRT
After cutting all the pieces making up your shirt, we start assembling them together. We mount all your buttons on stem, manually and by making the pattern of your choice (parallel, zampa di gallina, or cross). To ensure quality, precision and resistance, we machine embroider your buttonholes. Nevertheless, in order to satisfy the most purist among you, we can also make your buttonholes by hand.

THE FINISHES

THE FINISHES OF YOUR SHIRT
Assembling a bespoke shirt requires a large number of steps. Some of them are carried out by hand in order to guarantee perfect finishes and details worthy of a bespoke product.
Others are machine-made to ensure high wear resistance and precision. Our sewing line of up to 10 stitches per centimetre and a side seam that can be sewn up to 1 millimetre from the edge are proof of this.
